YOUR LEAGUE IN ACTION....

OK Leaguers now is the time to launch that blog so you can stay up-to-date with everything that is going on within the largest League in Florida. To save on printing costs The Voter has gone from being a monthly publication to appearing quarterly; but who can wait three months to get the news? Not me. I like mine on time and on demand.

Our next big event is the appearance of Orange County mayoral candidates at the Aug. 4 Hot Topics. With more than a week to go before the luncheon at the Sorosis Club, we seem set for a record turnoutto hear Matthew Falconer, Teresa Jacobs, Bill Segal and Linda Stewart. Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell is the moderator. As of now we have more than 114 reservations and we always get a last minute rush, plus walk ins. So if you haven't made your reservation, might want to do it now. You can find all the details on the League website www.OrangeVoter.com.

August is a big month for the League with primary elections on Aug. 24. Voter Services chief Laurie Wack has her Adopt-a-Precinct team lined up and ready to go.

And don't forget to raise your glasses on Aug. 26 and salute ratification of the 19th Amendment. It happened 90 years ago but what I discovered doing research for a Sentinel article is that it would be another 49 years before our fair state of Florida got around to symbolically ratifying the amendment. And even more puzzling, then governor, Claude Kirk, didn't bless it with his signature.
